Family Class

According to Canadian immigration laws and regulations, Canadian citizens or permanent residents are eligible to sponsor their family members, including spouses, common-law partners, conjugal partners (opposite or same-sex), dependent children, parents, grandparents, and, under certain circumstances, other relatives.

To be eligible for the family class sponsorship program, the following criteria must be met:

  • The applicant must have a qualified sponsor in the form of a spouse, common-law partner or conjugal partner who meets the sponsorship requirements.
  • The applicant must provide proof of their relationship with their sponsor, along with their age and identity.
  • The applicant and their family members must not be inadmissible to Canada.
  • All applicants must possess valid passports or travel documents with a minimum 6-month validity.

The family members that can’t come as dependent includes:

  • your parents
  • grandparents
  • brother or sister
  • uncle or aunt
  • nephew or niece
  • other relatives

Study Permit

To study in Canada you:

  • Enrolment in a designated learning institution (DLI) is mandatory.
  • Must show proof of adequate funds to cover :
  • tuition fees
  • living expenses for yourself and any family members who come with you to Canada
  • return fares for yourself and any family members
  • Undergo a medical examination to ensure good health
  • Provide Police clearance certificate
  • Prove that you will leave Canada when study permit expires or program ends

While studying in Canada you must:

  • Make progress towards completion of your program Respect any conditions listed on your study permit
  • Respect any conditions listed on your study permit
  • Discontinue studying if you no longer meet the requirements
  • Depart Canada when your permit expires

Provincial Nominations

This program is intended for individuals who:

  • possess the necessary work experience, education, and skills to make a valuable contribution to the economy of a particular province or territory,
  • desire to reside in that province or territory, and
  • aim to become permanent residents of Canada.

Each province and territory has its own “streams” following are some of the example of the different program that provinces and territories may have:

  • business or entrepreneur
  • skilled workers
  • semi-skilled workers
  • Post Grad students

Visitor Visa

To determine if you need a visa or Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) to enter Canada, consider these factors:

  • The type of travel document you have
  • The country that issued your travel document
  • Your nationality
  • Your mode of transportation to Canada

Super Visa

To be eligible for a super visa, you must:

You must be the parent or grandparent of a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada. You must have a signed invitation letter from your child or grandchild who is inviting you to Canada. You must have medical insurance from a Canadian insurance company that is: valid for at least 1 year from the date of entry and at least $100,000 coverage

Refugees

A Group of Five (G5) refers to a sponsorship program where a minimum of five Canadian citizens or permanent residents come together to sponsor a refugee living abroad to come to Canada.

  • G5s are only permitted to sponsor applicants who have already been recognized as refugees by the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR) or a foreign state.
  • The principal applicant being sponsored by G5 MUST have refugee status which means that they have been authorized by the UNHCR or the government of the country where the refugee is currently residing, as meeting the refugee definition.

Citizenship

To become naturalized Canadian citizens, individuals who have become permanent residents of Canada must demonstrate that they meet certain criteria, including:

  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Hold permanent resident status in Canada
  • Have been physically present in Canada for at least 3 out of the 5 years (1,095 days) immediately preceding the date of application
  • Have met personal income tax filing obligations in 3 taxation years within the last 5 years preceding the date of application
  • Possess adequate knowledge of English or French if they are between 18 and 54 years of age
  • Demonstrate knowledge of Canada, including its rights, responsibilities, and privileges of citizenship, if they are between 18 and 54 years of age
  • Not be under a removal order or subject to other prohibitions under the Citizenship Act.
